Jennifer Taverner is a Canadian soprano who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born in Toronto, Ontario, on May 22, 1989, Taverner grew up in a musical family. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was a conductor, so it was no surprise that she developed a love for music at a young age. Taverner began her musical training at the age of six, studying piano and voice. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, where she focused on vocal performance. After graduating, she went on to study at the University of Toronto, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. During her time at the University of Toronto, Taverner had the opportunity to perform in a number of productions, including Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" and Puccini's "La Bohème." She also participated in the university's opera program, where she received training from some of the top vocal coaches in the country. After completing her undergraduate degree, Taverner continued her studies at the University of British Columbia, where she earned a Master of Music degree in vocal performance. While there, she had the opportunity to work with renowned vocal coach Nancy Hermiston, who helped her refine her technique and develop her stage presence. Taverner's career as a professional opera singer began in 2013, when she was selected to participate in the Canadian Opera Company's Ensemble Studio program. This program is designed to provide young singers with the training and experience they need to launch successful careers in the opera world. During her time in the Ensemble Studio program, Taverner had the opportunity to perform in a number of productions, including "La Bohème," "The Magic Flute," and "Carmen." She also had the opportunity to work with some of the top directors and conductors in the industry, including Robert Carsen and Johannes Debus. In 2015, Taverner made her debut with the Canadian Opera Company in the role of Barbarina in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." Her performance was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and she quickly became known as one of the rising stars of the Canadian opera scene. Since then, Taverner has gone on to perform with a number of other opera companies, including the Edmonton Opera, the Pacific Opera Victoria, and the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. She has also performed in a number of concerts and recitals, both in Canada and abroad. One of the highlights of Taverner's career came in 2017, when she was selected to participate in the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. This program is one of the most prestigious in the world, and it provides young singers with the training and experience they need to launch successful careers on the international stage. During her time in the Lindemann program, Taverner had the opportunity to work with some of the top coaches and conductors in the industry, including James Levine and Fabio Luisi. She also had the opportunity to perform in a number of productions at the Metropolitan Opera, including "The Magic Flute" and "La Bohème." Taverner's talent and hard work have not gone unnoticed in the industry. She has received a number of awards and accolades throughout her career, including the George London Foundation Award, the Jacqueline Desmarais Foundation Award, and the Sylva Gelber Foundation Award.
