Michael Moser was born on May 12, 1960, in Vienna, Austria. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a composer and his mother a pianist. Moser started playing the cello at the age of six and quickly showed a talent for music. He studied at the Vienna Music Academy and later at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, where he received his diploma in cello performance. Moser's early career was focused on performing as a cellist, and he played with various orchestras and ensembles in Austria and abroad. However, he also had a strong interest in composition, and he began to write his own music in the 1980s. Moser's early works were influenced by the avant-garde and experimental music of the time, and he often used extended techniques and unconventional forms in his compositions. In the 1990s, Moser's style began to evolve, and he started to incorporate more traditional elements into his music. He became interested in the music of the Baroque and Classical periods, as well as in folk music from various cultures. Moser's compositions from this period often feature a blend of modern and traditional elements, with complex rhythms and harmonies combined with simple melodies and folk-inspired motifs. One of Moser's most significant works from this period is his cello concerto, which he composed in 1996. However, the concerto also has a lyrical quality, with beautiful melodies and harmonies that showcase the expressive capabilities of the cello. Sadly, Michael Moser passed away on December 31, 2017, at the age of 57.
