Born on August 1, 1967, in Helsinki, Finland, Lintinen showed an early interest in music and began playing the trumpet at the age of nine. He went on to study at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he received his Master's degree in trumpet performance in 1992. After completing his studies, Lintinen began his career as a freelance musician, performing with various orchestras and ensembles throughout Finland. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile musician, and in 1994, he was appointed as the principal trumpet player of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his work as a performer, Lintinen also began composing music in the early 1990s. His early works were primarily for brass ensembles, but he soon began writing for larger orchestras and other ensembles.
