The St. Petersburg Philharmony Chamber Orchestra is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over 30 years. Founded in 1988, the orchestra has become one of the most respected and sought-after chamber orchestras in Russia and beyond. The ensemble was founded by the renowned conductor and violinist Lev Shinder, who served as its artistic director and principal conductor until his untimely death in 2015. Shinder was a highly respected figure in the Russian classical music scene, having served as the concertmaster of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra and the principal conductor of the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra. Under Shinder's leadership, the St. Petersburg Philharmony Chamber Orchestra quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of classical music. The ensemble's core members were drawn from the ranks of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the oldest and most prestigious orchestras in Russia. The orchestra's repertoire is wide-ranging, encompassing works from the Baroque era to the present day. The ensemble has a particular affinity for the music of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, and has performed their works to great acclaim in concert halls around the world. Over the years, the St. Petersburg Philharmony Chamber Orchestra has collaborated with some of the most celebrated soloists in the classical music world, including violinist Maxim Vengerov, pianist Nikolai Lugansky, and cellist Mischa Maisky. The ensemble has also worked with a number of prominent conductors, including Yuri Temirkanov, Valery Gergiev, and Vladimir Ashkenazy. One of the highlights of the orchestra's career came in 1994, when it was invited to perform at the prestigious Salzburg Festival in Austria. The ensemble's performance of Mozart's Symphony No. 40 in G minor was met with rapturous applause, and cemented the orchestra's reputation as one of the finest chamber ensembles in the world. In addition to its many international performances, the St. Petersburg Philharmony Chamber Orchestra has also been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. In 2003, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Golden Mask award for its production of Mozart's opera "The Marriage of Figaro." The following year, the orchestra was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a cultural institution in Russia. Despite the untimely death of Lev Shinder in 2015, the St. Petersburg Philharmony Chamber Orchestra continues to thrive under the leadership of its current artistic director and principal conductor, Fabio Mastrangelo. Mastrangelo, an Italian conductor and violinist, has worked with some of the most renowned orchestras in Europe, and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the ensemble. Under Mastrangelo's leadership, the St. Petersburg Philharmony Chamber Orchestra has continued to push the boundaries of classical music, exploring new repertoire and collaborating with a diverse range of soloists and conductors. The ensemble's commitment to excellence and innovation has earned it a devoted following around the world, and cemented its place as one of the most important and influential chamber orchestras of our time.
