The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Wind Ensemble is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over 60 years. The ensemble was founded in 1958 by Sir Neville Marriner, a British conductor and violinist, who also founded the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields chamber orchestra. The wind ensemble was created as an extension of the chamber orchestra, with the aim of exploring the rich repertoire of wind music. The ensemble's main members are all highly accomplished musicians, each with a wealth of experience and expertise in their respective instruments. The current members of the ensemble are Michael Collins (clarinet), Timothy Orpen (clarinet), John Anderson (oboe), Martin Robertson (saxophone), Gareth Hulse (oboe), Robin O'Neill (bassoon), and Peter Whelan (bassoon). Over the years, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Wind Ensemble has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Salzburg Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated musicians of our time, including pianist Murray Perahia and violinist Joshua Bell. One of the highlights of the ensemble's career was their performance at the 2011 BBC Proms, where they performed a program of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Richard Strauss.
