The UTEP Wind Symphony is a classical music ensemble based at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The ensemble was founded in 1984 by Dr. Ron Hufstader, who served as its conductor until 2015. Since then, the ensemble has been led by Dr. Bradley Genevro, who has continued the tradition of excellence established by his predecessor. The UTEP Wind Symphony is made up of approximately 50 student musicians, who are selected through a rigorous audition process. The ensemble is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments, and performs a wide range of classical music repertoire, including works by composers such as Gustav Holst, John Williams, and Leonard Bernstein. Over the years, the UTEP Wind Symphony has become known for its high level of musicianship and its commitment to excellence. The ensemble has performed at numerous prestigious venues, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and has received numerous awards and accolades for its performances. One of the highlights of the UTEP Wind Symphony's history was its performance at the 2009 College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Conference in Austin, Texas. The ensemble was one of only six university wind ensembles selected to perform at the conference, which is considered one of the most prestigious events in the world of wind music. Another notable performance by the UTEP Wind Symphony was its collaboration with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra in 2014. The two ensembles joined forces to perform a concert featuring works by composers such as Aaron Copland and John Williams.
