John De Haan was born on May 12, 1985, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, De Haan showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. De Haan's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking formal piano lessons at the age of six and quickly progressed, winning his first competition at the age of eight. By the time he was a teenager, De Haan had already performed in several major concerts and had gained a reputation as a prodigious talent. In 2003, De Haan was accepted into the prestigious Amsterdam Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher Jan Wijn. In 2010, De Haan released his debut album, "Reflections," which featured a mix of classical and contemporary pieces. He also began to teach, passing on his knowledge and expertise to a new generation of pianists. In 2018, De Haan was invited to perform at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, one of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. The concert was a major milestone in De Haan's career, and he received a standing ovation from the audience. Throughout his career, De Haan has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to classical music. In addition to the Edison Award, he has been honored with the Dutch Music Prize, the highest honor for a musician in the Netherlands.
