The Harrington String Quartet is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over three decades. The quartet was founded in 1981 by Dr. Keith Redpath, a professor of music at West Texas A&M University, who wanted to create a professional string quartet that would serve as a cultural asset to the Texas Panhandle region. The original members of the Harrington String Quartet were violinists Rossitza Jekova-Goza and Keith Redpath, violist Vesselin Todorov, and cellist Emmanuel Lopez. Over the years, the quartet has undergone some personnel changes, but the current members are violinists Rossitza Jekova-Goza and Keith Redpath, violist Vesselin Todorov, and cellist Emmanuel Lopez. The Harrington String Quartet has performed extensively throughout the United States and abroad, including in Europe, Asia, and South America. They have also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including pianist Jon Nakamatsu, cellist Lynn Harrell, and clarinetist Richard Stoltzman. One of the highlights of the Harrington String Quartet's career was their performance at the White House in 1995, where they played for President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton. The quartet has also performed at many prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Lincoln Center. The Harrington String Quartet has received numerous awards and accolades for their exceptional performances. In 1988, they won the Coleman Chamber Music Competition, which is one of the most prestigious chamber music competitions in the world. They have also been awarded the Texas Medal of Arts and have been named the Texas State String Quartet. In addition to their performances, the Harrington String Quartet is also committed to music education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops for students of all ages and have worked with many youth orchestras and music programs. They also founded the Harrington String Quartet Foundation, which supports music education and performance in the Texas Panhandle region.
