Melvin Broiles was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a jazz pianist and his mother a classical violinist. From a young age, Broiles showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Broiles received his early musical education at the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied with renowned violinist Dorothy DeLay. He later went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he was a student of Aaron Rosand. Broiles made his professional debut at the age of 16, performing with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Lorin Maazel. This performance was a major highlight of his career, and it helped to establish him as a rising star in the classical music world. Over the years, Broiles has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors of our time, including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Simon Rattle, and Daniel Barenboim. In addition to his work as a soloist, Broiles is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. Broiles has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 2005, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. He has also been a recipient of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship and the Gilmore Young Artist Award. Despite his many accomplishments, Broiles remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
