Caffé Concerto Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 in London, England. The ensemble is known for its unique blend of classical music and jazz, which has earned it a reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting ensembles in the classical music world. The founding members of Caffé Concerto Ensemble were violinist and artistic director, David Juritz, cellist, Adrian Bradbury, and pianist, John Lenehan. The three musicians had previously worked together in various other ensembles and orchestras, and they decided to form their own ensemble to explore their shared passion for classical music and jazz. The ensemble's name, Caffé Concerto, was inspired by the Italian coffee houses of the 18th century, where musicians would gather to perform and socialize. The ensemble's aim was to recreate this intimate and informal atmosphere in their performances, and to bring classical music to a wider audience. Since its founding, Caffé Concerto Ensemble has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Wigmore Hall, and the Barbican Centre. The ensemble has also toured extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, and has collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians and conductors. One of the highlights of Caffé Concerto Ensemble's career was their performance at the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. The ensemble was chosen to perform the Olympic Hymn, which was composed by Greek composer, Spyridon Samaras, and set to lyrics by Greek poet, Kostis Palamas. The performance was watched by an estimated 900 million people worldwide, and was widely praised for its beauty and elegance. Another notable performance by Caffé Concerto Ensemble was their collaboration with jazz pianist, Chick Corea, in 2015. The ensemble and Corea performed a program of Corea's compositions, arranged for classical ensemble, at the Barbican Centre in London. The performance was a critical and commercial success, and was hailed as a groundbreaking fusion of classical and jazz music. Caffé Concerto Ensemble has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout its career. In 2007, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber Music, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the classical music world. The ensemble has also been nominated for several Grammy Awards, and has won several other international awards and competitions. The main members of Caffé Concerto Ensemble have remained largely unchanged since the ensemble's founding. David Juritz continues to serve as the ensemble's artistic director and lead violinist, while Adrian Bradbury remains the ensemble's cellist. John Lenehan left the ensemble in 2010, and was replaced by pianist, Simon Crawford-Phillips. In addition to its performances and recordings, Caffé Concerto Ensemble is also committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly performs in schools and community centers, and has developed several educational programs for young musicians. The ensemble also runs a summer music festival in Italy, which brings together musicians from around the world for a week of intensive rehearsals and performances. In conclusion, Caffé Concerto Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that has made a significant impact on the classical music world since its founding in 2005.
