Born on May 22, 1961, in Oslo, Norway, Andersen showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He went on to study at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where he received his diploma in piano performance in 1985. Andersen's career as a musician began in earnest in the 1980s, when he started performing as a soloist and chamber musician in Norway and abroad. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented and versatile pianist, with a particular affinity for the music of the Romantic era. In 1987, he won first prize in the Norwegian National Piano Competition, which helped to launch his career and establish him as one of Norway's leading pianists. Over the years, Andersen has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras and conductors, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many of the world's leading soloists, including violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, cellist Truls Mørk, and soprano Solveig Kringelborn. One of the highlights of Andersen's career was his performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in 1993. The performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and technical virtuosity, and helped to cement Andersen's reputation as one of Norway's leading pianists. In addition to his work as a performer, Andersen is also an accomplished composer and arranger. He has written music for a variety of ensembles, including orchestras, chamber groups, and soloists, and his works have been performed by many of the world's leading musicians.
