Spanish Brass is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over three decades. The group was founded in 1989 by five talented musicians who shared a passion for brass music and a desire to create a unique sound that blended traditional and contemporary styles. The founding members of Spanish Brass were Carlos Benetó Grau (trumpet), Juanjo Serna Salvador (trumpet), Manuel Pérez Ortega (French horn), Inda Bonet Manrique (trombone), and Sergio Finca Quirós (tuba). All five musicians had extensive experience performing with other ensembles and orchestras, and they brought a wealth of knowledge and skill to their new venture. From the beginning, Spanish Brass set out to push the boundaries of brass music and explore new possibilities for the genre. They drew inspiration from a wide range of musical styles, including jazz, pop, and world music, and incorporated these influences into their performances. One of the group's early highlights was their victory at the prestigious Narbonne International Brass Quintet Competition in France in 1991. This win helped to establish Spanish Brass as a rising star in the classical music world and opened up new opportunities for the group to perform on international stages. Over the years, Spanish Brass has continued to build on their success and expand their repertoire. They have released numerous albums, including collaborations with other musicians and ensembles, and have performed at some of the world's most renowned concert halls and festivals. One of the group's most notable performances was their appearance at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, where they played for a global audience of millions. They have also performed at the Lincoln Center in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House in Australia, among many other prestigious venues. In addition to their live performances, Spanish Brass has also been recognized for their contributions to the classical music world through a number of awards and honors. They have received the National Music Prize from the Spanish Ministry of Culture, the Gold Medal for Fine Arts from the Spanish government, and the City of Valencia Award for Music, among others.
