The group is composed of talented musicians from Clare College, Cambridge, and has gained a reputation for their exquisite choral and orchestral performances. The birth of Clare College Choir & Orchestra, Cambridge can be traced back to the early 1970s when Timothy Brown, a former chorister of Clare College, returned to the college as the Director of Music. Brown was determined to establish a choir that would rival the best in the world, and he set about recruiting talented singers from the college. Under Brown's leadership, the choir quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional performances, and they were soon invited to perform at major venues across the UK and Europe. In 1978, the choir made their debut at the BBC Proms, performing Handel's Messiah to critical acclaim. Over the years, Clare College Choir & Orchestra, Cambridge has continued to grow and evolve, attracting some of the most talented musicians from around the world. Today, the group is composed of around 30 singers and 25 instrumentalists, all of whom are students or alumni of Clare College. One of the highlights of Clare College Choir & Orchestra, Cambridge's career was their performance at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011. The group was invited to perform at the ceremony, and their rendition of "This is the day which the Lord hath made" was widely praised for its beauty and elegance.
