Richard Hickox & His Orchestra was a British classical music ensemble that was founded in 1971 by the renowned conductor Richard Hickox. The ensemble was known for its exceptional performances of classical music, particularly the works of British composers. Richard Hickox was born in Stokenchurch, Buckinghamshire, England, in 1948. He studied music at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was awarded the prestigious Queen's Prize for Conducting. After completing his studies, Hickox worked as a freelance conductor, working with a number of orchestras and ensembles in the UK and abroad. In 1971, Hickox founded his own ensemble, which he called the Richard Hickox Orchestra. The ensemble was made up of some of the finest musicians in the UK, many of whom had worked with Hickox before.
