Ensemble Paramirabo is a Canadian classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008. The ensemble is known for its innovative and contemporary approach to classical music, and has gained a reputation for its dynamic performances and unique programming. The founding members of Ensemble Paramirabo were percussionist Ben Duinker, flutist Jeffrey Stonehouse, and pianist Gabriel Dharmoo. The three musicians met while studying at the Université de Montréal, and quickly discovered a shared passion for contemporary classical music. They decided to form an ensemble that would focus on performing new and experimental works, and began rehearsing together in 2008. Over the years, Ensemble Paramirabo has expanded to include a number of other musicians, including violinist Jennifer Thiessen, cellist Elinor Frey, and clarinetist Benjamin Deschamps. The ensemble's current lineup includes Duinker, Stonehouse, Dharmoo, Thiessen, and Deschamps, as well as percussionist Zac Pulak and bassist Pierre-Alexandre Maranda. One of the highlights of Ensemble Paramirabo's career was their performance at the 2012 Montreal/New Music Festival. The ensemble performed a program of contemporary works by Canadian composers, including pieces by Ana Sokolović, Nicole Lizée, and Jean Lesage. The performance was well-received by both audiences and critics, and helped to establish Ensemble Paramirabo as one of Canada's leading contemporary classical ensembles. In 2014, Ensemble Paramirabo released their debut album, "QUNAQ," which featured works by Canadian composers James O'Callaghan, Maxime McKinley, and Gabriel Dharmoo. The album received critical acclaim and was nominated for a Juno Award in the category of Classical Album of the Year: Solo or Chamber Ensemble. In addition to their performances and recordings, Ensemble Paramirabo is also committed to promoting contemporary classical music through education and outreach. The ensemble has worked with a number of schools and community organizations to introduce young people to contemporary classical music, and has also collaborated with other artists and ensembles to create interdisciplinary performances that combine music, dance, and visual art. Ensemble Paramirabo has received numerous awards and accolades for their work, including the Prix Opus for Concert of the Year: Modern and Contemporary Music in 2015, and the Prix Opus for Discovery of the Year in 2012. The ensemble has also been featured in a number of prominent music festivals, including the Ottawa Chamberfest, the Toronto Summer Music Festival, and the Vancouver New Music Festival. Overall, Ensemble Paramirabo has established itself as one of Canada's most innovative and exciting contemporary classical ensembles. With their commitment to new and experimental works, their dynamic performances, and their dedication to education and outreach, the ensemble is sure to continue making an impact on the Canadian classical music scene for years to come.More....
