Philippe Saisse is a French-born jazz and classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a pianist, keyboardist, composer, and producer. He was born on June 10, 1956, in Marseille, France, and grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz guitarist, and his mother was a classical pianist, which exposed him to both genres of music from a young age. Saisse began playing the piano at the age of four and showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied classical music at the Conservatoire de Marseille and later at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. During his studies, he also became interested in jazz and began playing in local clubs and festivals. In 1975, Saisse moved to New York City to pursue his music career. He quickly became a sought-after session musician and worked with a variety of artists, including David Bowie, Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan, and David Sanborn. He also formed his own jazz fusion band, The Philippe Saisse Trio, which released several albums in the 1980s. In addition to his work as a performer, Saisse has also made a name for himself as a composer and producer. He has written music for films, television shows, and commercials, and has produced albums for a variety of artists, including Gato Barbieri, David Bowie, and Al Jarreau. One of Saisse's most notable performances was at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. He was chosen to perform the theme song for the games, "Hand in Hand," which he co-wrote with John Williams and performed with a choir of 1,000 Korean children. The song became a hit in Korea and was later released as a single in the United States. Saisse has also received numerous awards and nominations throughout his career. In 1998, he won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance for his work on the album "The Rippingtons Live in L.A." He has also been nominated for several other Grammy Awards, including Best Jazz Fusion Performance and Best Instrumental Composition. In addition to his work as a musician, Saisse is also a dedicated educator. He has taught at several universities and music schools, including the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Overall, Philippe Saisse has had a long and successful career as a jazz and classical music artist. His talent as a pianist, composer, and producer has earned him numerous accolades and has made him a respected figure in the music industry.
