Ying-Chun Chen is a Taiwanese classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1985, Chen began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She began formal piano lessons at the age of six and went on to study at the National Taiwan Normal University, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree. After completing her undergraduate studies, Chen moved to the United States to pursue further education in music. She enrolled in the Master of Music program at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she studied with renowned pianist Wha Kyung Byun. During her time at the conservatory, Chen won several awards and competitions, including the NEC Concerto Competition and the Boston Conservatory Piano Competition. Following her graduation from the New England Conservatory, Chen continued her studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned her Artist Diploma. While at Juilliard, Chen studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky and Robert McDonald, both of whom had a profound influence on her musical development. Chen's career as a concert pianist began to take off in the early 2010s, when she won several major international competitions. In 2010, she won the International Piano Competition in Morocco, and in 2011, she won the International Piano Competition in Panama. These victories helped to establish Chen as a rising star in the classical music world, and she began to receive invitations to perform at major concert halls and festivals around the world. One of Chen's most notable performances took place in 2012, when she performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as part of the center's Conservatory Project. Her performance was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth, and it helped to cement her reputation as one of the most exciting young pianists of her generation. In addition to her solo performances, Chen has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and ensembles. She has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Panama, and the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, among others. She has also collaborated with a number of chamber music groups, including the Jupiter String Quartet and the Daedalus Quartet. Throughout her career, Chen has received numerous awards and honors for her musical achievements.
