Sérénade à trois is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2015 by three talented musicians, namely, violinist Marie-Andrée Ostiguy, cellist Marie-Ève Fortier, and pianist Amélie Fortin. The ensemble's name, which translates to "serenade for three," reflects the group's focus on chamber music, particularly works written for piano trio. The three musicians first met while studying at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where they quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music. After performing together in various settings, they decided to form their own ensemble, with the goal of exploring the rich repertoire of piano trio music and bringing it to audiences around the world. Since its founding, Sérénade à trois has become known for its dynamic and expressive performances, which showcase the individual talents of each member while also highlighting the group's tight ensemble playing. The trio's repertoire includes works by classical composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert, as well as contemporary pieces by living composers. One of the ensemble's early highlights was its performance at the 2016 Montreal Chamber Music Festival, where they received critical acclaim for their interpretation of Beethoven's "Archduke" Trio. The following year, they were invited to perform at the prestigious Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta, Canada, where they worked with renowned pianist Menahem Pressler and other chamber music experts. In 2018, Sérénade à trois released its debut album, "Piano Trios," which features works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Canadian composer Kelly-Marie Murphy. The album received widespread praise for its technical precision and emotional depth, and was nominated for a Juno Award, Canada's top music prize. In addition to its concert performances and recordings, Sérénade à trois is also committed to music education and outreach. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has worked with organizations such as Musique pour tous, which provides music education to underprivileged children in Montreal. Looking ahead, Sérénade à trois has a busy schedule of performances and collaborations planned, including a tour of Europe in 2022. The ensemble's members remain dedicated to exploring the rich and varied repertoire of piano trio music, and to sharing their passion for chamber music with audiences around the world.
