The Choir of Yorkminster Park Baptist Church is a renowned classical music ensemble based in Toronto, Canada. Founded in 1926, the choir has a rich history of performing sacred music in the Anglican tradition, and has become one of the most respected choirs in North America. The choir was founded by Dr. Albert Ham, who served as the church's music director for over 40 years. Under his leadership, the choir grew in size and reputation, and became known for its exceptional performances of choral music. Dr. Ham was succeeded by Dr. William Wright, who continued to build on the choir's legacy of excellence. Today, the choir is led by Dr. William Maddox, who has been the music director since 2013. Dr. Maddox is a highly respected conductor and organist, and has worked with some of the world's leading choirs and orchestras. The choir's membership is made up of approximately 40 singers, who are all volunteers. Many of the members have extensive musical training and experience, and some are professional musicians. The choir also includes a number of young singers, who are part of the church's youth choir program. Over the years, the Choir of Yorkminster Park Baptist Church has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York City and St. Paul's Cathedral in London. The choir has also toured extensively throughout Canada and the United States, and has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. One of the choir's most notable performances was its appearance at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, where it performed the Canadian national anthem at the opening ceremonies. The choir has also been featured on numerous recordings, including several albums of sacred music. In addition to its performances, the Choir of Yorkminster Park Baptist Church has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2016, the choir was awarded the prestigious Elmer Iseler Award for Excellence in Choral Conducting, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the choral arts in Canada. The choir has also been recognized by the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council for its contributions to the cultural life of the city and the province.
