He worked on a number of classic films, including "The Lavender Hill Mob" (1951), "The Ladykillers" (1955), and "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Original Score. In addition to his work in the film industry, Eric also worked extensively in television, where he composed and arranged music for a number of popular shows, including "The Benny Hill Show," "The Goon Show," and "The Avengers." He also worked on a number of radio programs, including "The Navy Lark" and "Hancock's Half Hour."
