Born on August 22, 1969, in Los Angeles, California, Stone grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Richard Stone, was a composer and conductor, while his mother, Debbie, was a singer and pianist. From a young age, Stone was exposed to a wide range of musical genres, including classical, jazz, and rock. Stone began playing the cello at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied under the tutelage of renowned cellist Eleonore Schoenfeld at the University of Southern California, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree. He then went on to study with Lynn Harrell at the University of Southern California, where he earned his Master of Music degree.
