He was the youngest of three children and grew up in a musical family. His father was a conductor and his mother was a singer, and they both encouraged their children to pursue music. Van Roosendael began playing the piano at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. He studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory and later at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he received his degree in composition. He also studied with renowned composers such as Louis Andriessen and Ton de Leeuw. Van Roosendael's early works were influenced by the minimalist style of composers such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass. His compositions often featured repetitive patterns and simple harmonies, but he also incorporated elements of jazz and rock music into his pieces. One of Van Roosendael's most notable works is his Piano Concerto, which he composed in 1983. The piece features a solo piano accompanied by a full orchestra and is known for its complex rhythms and intricate melodies. The concerto has been performed by numerous orchestras around the world and has received critical acclaim. In addition to his classical compositions, Van Roosendael also wrote music for film and television. He composed the score for the Dutch film "De Wisselwachter" in 1986 and later worked on several television series, including "Baantjer" and "Grijpstra & De Gier." Van Roosendael was also a respected pianist and often performed his own compositions in concert. He was known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of his music. Throughout his career, Van Roosendael received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1992, he was awarded the prestigious Matthijs Vermeulen Prize for his composition "De Tijd." He was also a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. Sadly, Van Roosendael passed away on December 28, 2005, at the age of 51.
