The choir was founded in 1949 in Wernigerode, a small town in the Harz Mountains of Germany, by the conductor Helmut Sack. In 1951, the choir participated in the International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, where they won first prize in the youth choir category. One of the highlights of the choir's career came in 1999, when they performed at the opening ceremony of the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport. This performance cemented the choir's reputation as one of the finest in the world, and it led to many more opportunities for them to perform on the international stage. Over the years, the choir has won numerous awards and accolades for their exceptional performances.
