He played with some of the most popular bands of the time, including the Ambrose Orchestra and the Jack Hylton Band. During this time, he honed his skills as an arranger, developing a unique style that blended classical and popular music. In the 1940s, Winstone began to focus more on composing and arranging for film and television. He worked on a number of popular British films, including "The Blue Lamp" and "The Lavender Hill Mob." He also composed music for a number of television shows, including "The Benny Hill Show" and "The Avengers." One of Winstone's most notable works is his arrangement of the traditional English folk song "Greensleeves." His arrangement, which was recorded by the Mantovani Orchestra, became a hit in the United States and helped to popularize the song around the world. Winstone's other notable works include his arrangement of the traditional Scottish song "Loch Lomond," which was recorded by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and his composition "The Big Beat," which was used as the theme for the British television show "Six-Five Special." Throughout his career, Winstone remained committed to blending classical and popular music. He believed that the two genres could complement each other and create something new and exciting. His unique style and innovative arrangements helped to shape the sound of British music in the mid-20th century. Winstone passed away on June 1, 1974, but his legacy lives on through his music.
