At the age of 12, he won first prize in a national piano competition, which marked the beginning of his professional career. In 1940, Oyanguren moved to Madrid to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music. He studied under the guidance of renowned pianists such as Joaquín Rodrigo and Conchita Badía. During his time at the conservatory, he won several awards and prizes, including the National Prize for Piano in 1943. After completing his studies, Oyanguren began performing in concerts throughout Spain and Europe.
