Role:ComposerChen Puixun was a Chinese composer who was born on December 22, 1918, in Shanghai, China. He was the youngest of six children and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His father was a music teacher, and his mother was a singer. Chen's parents recognized his musical talent at a young age and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Chen began his formal music education at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1935, where he studied composition with the renowned composer Ding Shande. He graduated in 1941 and went on to teach at the conservatory for several years. During this time, he also worked as a composer and conductor for the Shanghai Opera Company. In 1949, Chen moved to Beijing to work for the Central Philharmonic Society, where he served as a composer and conductor. He also taught at the Central Conservatory of Music, where he became a professor in 1956. Chen's compositions during this time were heavily influenced by Chinese folk music and traditional Chinese opera. One of Chen's most famous works is his opera "The White-Haired Girl," which he composed in 1945. The opera tells the story of a young peasant girl who is forced to work as a slave for a wealthy landlord. The girl eventually escapes and becomes a revolutionary hero. "The White-Haired Girl" was a huge success in China and is still performed today. Chen's other notable works include his "Symphony No. 1," which he composed in 1957. The symphony is a tribute to the Chinese people and their struggle for independence. Chen also composed several ballets, including "The Red Detachment of Women" and "The Butterfly Lovers." In addition to his work as a composer, Chen was also a respected conductor. He conducted the Beijing Symphony Orchestra and the Central Philharmonic Society, among others. He was known for his ability to bring out the best in his musicians and for his attention to detail. Chen's career was not without controversy, however. During the Cultural Revolution in China, he was criticized for his Western-style compositions and was forced to stop teaching and composing for several years. He was eventually rehabilitated in the 1970s and was able to resume his career. Chen Puixun died on December 24, 1992, in Beijing, China. He is remembered as one of China's greatest composers and as a pioneer in the fusion of Chinese and Western music. His works continue to be performed and celebrated today.More....
