Tamás Szekendy is a Hungarian classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a violinist and conductor. Born on December 22, 1972, in Budapest, Hungary, Szekendy showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. He was a prodigious talent and quickly gained recognition for his exceptional skills. Szekendy's early musical education was at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned violinist Dénes Kovács. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance. He also studied conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Szekendy's career as a violinist began in earnest in the early 1990s, when he won several prestigious competitions, including the International Violin Competition in Sion, Switzerland, and the International Violin Competition in Indianapolis, Indiana. These victories helped to establish him as a rising star in the classical music world. Szekendy has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with some of the most celebrated conductors of our time, including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, and Zubin Mehta. One of Szekendy's most notable performances was his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 1995, where he played the Brahms Violin Concerto under the baton of Claudio Abbado. The performance was widely praised by critics, who noted Szekendy's technical mastery and emotional depth. Szekendy has also made a name for himself as a conductor, and has led many of the world's top orchestras in performances of both classical and contemporary works. He has been the principal conductor of the Hungarian State Opera since 2015, and has also served as the principal guest conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his performing career, Szekendy is also a respected educator and mentor. He has taught at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, the Juilliard School in New York City, and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
