Role:Composer PerformerGenre:ChoralTimo Ruottinen was a Finnish composer born on May 22, 1969, in Helsinki, Finland. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a singer. From a young age, Ruottinen showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later went on to study music at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he received his degree in composition. Ruottinen's early works were heavily influenced by the Finnish classical music tradition, particularly the works of Jean Sibelius. His compositions were characterized by their use of traditional Finnish melodies and harmonies, as well as their incorporation of nature themes. One of his earliest works, "Kevätlaulu" (Spring Song), was written when he was just 18 years old and showcased his talent for creating beautiful, melodic music. Throughout his career, Ruottinen continued to explore the themes of nature and Finnish culture in his compositions. One of his most famous works, "Kalevala Suite," was inspired by the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala. The suite is a collection of five pieces that tell the story of the creation of the world and the adventures of the hero Väinämöinen. The music is characterized by its use of traditional Finnish instruments, such as the kantele and the jouhikko, and its incorporation of folk melodies. Another notable work by Ruottinen is his "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra." The piece was commissioned by the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and premiered in 2001. The concerto is a virtuosic showcase for the solo violinist, with fast, intricate passages and soaring melodies. The music is also notable for its use of unconventional harmonies and rhythms, which give the piece a modern, avant-garde feel. In addition to his classical compositions, Ruottinen also wrote music for film and television. He composed the score for several Finnish films, including "Kuningasjätkä" (The King of Hearts) and "Kolme viisasta miestä" (Three Wise Men). His music for these films was characterized by its use of traditional Finnish instruments and its ability to capture the mood and atmosphere of the films. Sadly, Ruottinen's career was cut short when he passed away in 2005 at the age of 36. However, his legacy lives on through his music, which continues to be performed and celebrated by musicians and audiences around the world. His compositions are a testament to his talent and his love for Finnish culture and nature, and they serve as a reminder of the beauty and power of classical music.More....
