Born on August 19, 1946, in the Bronx, New York, Soviero grew up in a family that was passionate about music. Her father was a jazz musician, and her mother was a singer. Soviero's love for music was evident from a young age, and she began taking piano lessons at the age of six. Soviero's talent for singing was discovered when she was a teenager. She began taking voice lessons and quickly developed a powerful and expressive voice. She went on to study at the Mannes College of Music in New York City, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree. She continued her studies at the Juilliard School, where she earned a Master of Music degree. Soviero's career as a professional opera singer began in the early 1970s.
