He was the son of a musician and grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Johann Caspar Fritz, was a violinist and composer, and his mother, Maria Magdalena, was a singer. Gaspard showed an early interest in music and began studying the violin at a young age. At the age of 16, Gaspard moved to Paris to study music. He studied with some of the most prominent musicians of the time, including Jean-Baptiste Senaillé and Jean-Marie Leclair. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented violinist and composer. In 1741, Gaspard was appointed as the concertmaster of the orchestra at the court of the Duke of Württemberg in Stuttgart, Germany. He held this position for several years and composed many works for the court. During this time, he also traveled extensively throughout Europe, performing and composing music. In 1750, Gaspard moved to London, where he became a popular composer and performer. He composed many works for the London stage, including operas, ballets, and instrumental music. He also performed regularly as a violinist, both in concerts and in the orchestra of the King's Theatre. One of Gaspard's most famous works is his opera "Le Jugement de Midas," which premiered in London in 1760. The opera was a great success and was performed many times throughout Europe. It tells the story of King Midas, who is granted the power to turn everything he touches into gold, but ultimately realizes that this power is a curse. Gaspard's music is characterized by its elegance and refinement. He was known for his use of ornamentation and his ability to create beautiful melodies. His music was influenced by the French and Italian styles of the time, but he also incorporated elements of German music into his compositions. In addition to his work as a composer and performer, Gaspard was also a respected music teacher. He taught many students, including his own son, who became a successful composer in his own right. Gaspard died in London in 1783 at the age of 67. He left behind a legacy of beautiful music that continues to be performed and appreciated today. His works are a testament to his talent and his love of music, and they continue to inspire and delight audiences around the world.More....
