From a young age, Gibbs showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the violin at the age of four. Gibbs received his early musical education at the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied with renowned violinist Dorothy DeLay. He later went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he was a student of Aaron Rosand. In 2003, he won first prize at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, one of the most prestigious violin competitions in the world.
