The Amstel Quartet is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1998 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The quartet is composed of four members, Olivier Sliepen (soprano saxophone), Bas Apswoude (alto saxophone), Remco Jak (tenor saxophone), and Harry Cherrin (baritone saxophone). The Amstel Quartet has gained international recognition for their unique sound and innovative approach to classical music. They have performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Berlin Philharmonic, and Carnegie Hall in New York City. The quartet's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Bach to contemporary composers. They have also collaborated with a variety of musicians, including jazz pianist Mike del Ferro and the Dutch National Ballet. One of the highlights of the Amstel Quartet's career was their performance at the 2006 World Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia. They were awarded the prestigious Silver Medal for their performance, which included works by Bach, Ravel, and Piazzolla. In addition to their performances, the Amstel Quartet is also committed to education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops for saxophonists of all levels, and have worked with young musicians in schools and community centers. The Amstel Quartet has released several albums, including "Bach Reflections" and "Dance!" which features works by composers such as Stravinsky and Bernstein. Their most recent album, "Amstel Tracks," features original compositions by the quartet members.
