The New London Opera Orchestra is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1993 by conductor Ronald Corp. The orchestra is based in London, England and is known for its performances of operatic and choral works. Ronald Corp, who is also the Artistic Director of the orchestra, founded the New London Opera Orchestra with the aim of creating a professional ensemble that would perform operatic works in English. The orchestra's first performance was in 1993 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, where they performed Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado". Since its founding, the New London Opera Orchestra has become known for its performances of operatic works in English, as well as its collaborations with other ensembles and soloists. The orchestra has also performed in a number of prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Centre, and the Royal Opera House. The New London Opera Orchestra is made up of a core group of musicians, including string players, woodwind players, brass players, and percussionists. The orchestra also works with a number of guest soloists and conductors, depending on the repertoire being performed. One of the highlights of the New London Opera Orchestra's career was their performance of Benjamin Britten's "Noye's Fludde" at the Royal Opera House in 1998. The performance was part of the Britten centenary celebrations and featured a cast of over 100 children, as well as a number of professional soloists. Another notable performance by the New London Opera Orchestra was their collaboration with the English National Ballet in 2003. The orchestra provided the music for a production of "The Sleeping Beauty", which was choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan. In addition to their performances, the New London Opera Orchestra has also received a number of awards and accolades over the years. In 2001, the orchestra was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Ensemble Award for their performances of operatic works in English. The following year, they were awarded the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera for their production of "The Mikado". The New London Opera Orchestra continues to perform regularly in London and throughout the UK, and is known for its high-quality performances of operatic and choral works.
