Born on June 25, 1908, in London, Robinson showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He later studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he honed his skills as a conductor and composer. Robinson's career in music began in the 1930s when he joined the BBC as a staff conductor. He quickly gained a reputation for his exceptional talent and was soon conducting some of the most prestigious orchestras in the country. In 1939, he was appointed the conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until 1946. During his time with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Robinson conducted numerous concerts and made several recordings that received critical acclaim. He also worked with some of the most prominent musicians of the time, including Benjamin Britten, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Igor Stravinsky. In 1946, Robinson left the BBC Symphony Orchestra to pursue a career as a freelance conductor. He continued to work with some of the most renowned orchestras in the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Philharmonia Orchestra. One of Robinson's most significant achievements was his work as the conductor of the Proms concerts. The Proms is an annual series of classical music concerts held in London, and Robinson conducted the event for over 20 years. He was known for his ability to connect with the audience and create a lively and engaging atmosphere. Robinson was also a prolific arranger and composer. He arranged numerous works for orchestra, including pieces by Johann Strauss II, Franz Schubert, and George Gershwin. He also composed several original works, including a ballet titled "The Lady and the Fool," which was performed by the Sadler's Wells Ballet in 1954. Throughout his career, Robinson received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1953, he was awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his services to music. He was also awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 1962 and was knighted in 1977. Robinson continued to conduct and compose music until his death on April 10, 1977.
