Aura Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and has gained a reputation for its innovative programming and exceptional performances. The founding members of Aura Ensemble were violinist Laura Goldberg, violist Sarah Adams, cellist Emily Brausa, and pianist Lora Tchekoratova. All four musicians had extensive experience performing in various orchestras and chamber groups, and they came together with the goal of creating a new ensemble that would showcase their individual talents and unique musical perspectives. From the beginning, Aura Ensemble was committed to exploring a wide range of musical styles and genres, from classical and romantic works to contemporary compositions and world music. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, and Shostakovich, as well as lesser-known pieces by contemporary composers and traditional music from around the world. One of the highlights of Aura Ensemble's early years was its debut performance at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2011. The ensemble received critical acclaim for its performance of works by Brahms, Schumann, and Dvorak, and the concert marked the beginning of a successful career for the group. Over the years, Aura Ensemble has continued to perform at major venues and festivals throughout the United States and abroad. The ensemble has been featured at the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society, the Ravinia Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival, among others. In addition to its live performances, Aura Ensemble has also released several recordings, including its debut album, "Introducing Aura Ensemble," which was released in 2012. The album features works by Brahms, Schumann, and Dvorak, as well as a piece by contemporary composer Jennifer Higdon. One of the hallmarks of Aura Ensemble's performances is the group's commitment to collaboration and experimentation. The ensemble has worked with a wide range of artists and musicians, including dancers, visual artists, and poets, to create unique and innovative performances that push the boundaries of traditional chamber music. In recognition of its exceptional performances and innovative programming, Aura Ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. The ensemble was a finalist in the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming in 2014 and 2016, and it was awarded the Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant in 2017. Today, Aura Ensemble continues to be a leading force in the world of chamber music, with a reputation for its exceptional musicianship, innovative programming, and commitment to collaboration and experimentation.
