Nikolai Pavlovich Budashkin was a Russian composer who lived during the 18th century. He was born in Moscow in 1750 and was the son of a priest. Budashkin showed an early interest in music and began studying the piano and violin at a young age. He later went on to study composition with the famous composer Dmitry Bortniansky. Budashkin's early works were heavily influenced by the music of his teacher, Bortniansky, who was known for his choral music. Budashkin's first major work was a collection of choral pieces called "The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom," which was composed in 1776. This work was well-received and helped establish Budashkin as a composer of note. In addition to his choral works, Budashkin also composed instrumental music. One of his most famous works is his "Concerto for Harpsichord and Orchestra," which was composed in 1780. This work is notable for its use of the harpsichord, which was a popular instrument at the time but had fallen out of favor by the end of the 18th century. Budashkin's music was well-regarded during his lifetime, and he was appointed as the director of the Imperial Chapel in St. Petersburg in 1783. He held this position until his death in 1803. One of Budashkin's most famous works is his "Requiem in C minor," which was composed in 1795. This work is notable for its use of the choir, which is used to great effect in the opening movement. The work also features a solo soprano, who sings a hauntingly beautiful aria in the second movement. Another notable work by Budashkin is his "Symphony in C major," which was composed in 1785. This work is notable for its use of the orchestra, which is used to great effect in the opening movement. The work also features a beautiful second movement, which features a solo violin. Budashkin's music was heavily influenced by the music of his time, which was characterized by a focus on melody and harmony. His music was also influenced by the music of the church, which is evident in his choral works. Despite his success as a composer, Budashkin's music fell out of favor after his death. It was not until the 20th century that his music began to be rediscovered and appreciated. Today, his music is considered to be an important part of the Russian classical music tradition.
