The Chicago Symphony Brass is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 50 years. The group was formed in 1968 as an offshoot of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and has since become one of the most respected brass ensembles in the world. The founding members of the Chicago Symphony Brass were all members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and included Arnold Jacobs on tuba, Adolph Herseth and Vincent Cichowicz on trumpet, and Dale Clevenger on horn. These musicians were all highly respected in their respective fields, and their collaboration resulted in a unique and powerful sound that quickly gained recognition. The group's first major performance was in 1968, when they performed at the Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois. This performance was met with critical acclaim, and set the stage for the group's future success. Over the years, the Chicago Symphony Brass has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. One of the highlights of the Chicago Symphony Brass's career was their performance at the 1987 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Denver, Colorado. This performance was particularly significant because it featured the world premiere of a new work by composer John Williams, entitled "Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra." The piece was written specifically for the Chicago Symphony Brass, and showcased the group's exceptional talent and versatility. In addition to their live performances, the Chicago Symphony Brass has also released several recordings over the years. Their first album, "Chicago Symphony Brass," was released in 1972, and featured a mix of classical and contemporary pieces. Since then, the group has released several more albums, including "Chicago Symphony Brass Live," "Chicago Symphony Brass Christmas," and "Chicago Symphony Brass Plays Great American Brass Band Music." The Chicago Symphony Brass has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors over the years. In 1986, the group was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance for their album "Brass and Organ: Festive Music for Brass and Organ from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra." They have also been awarded the ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, and have been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts for their contributions to the arts. Despite their many accomplishments, the Chicago Symphony Brass remains committed to their mission of bringing classical music to audiences around the world. They continue to perform regularly, and are known for their innovative programming and exceptional musicianship. Their legacy as one of the world's premier brass ensembles is secure, and they will undoubtedly continue to inspire and delight audiences for many years to come.
