Born in Seoul, South Korea, on December 31, 1972, Ham showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Ham's musical education began at the Yewon School in Seoul, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Nam-Yun Kim. She then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music. During her time at Juilliard, Ham studied with renowned violinists such as Dorothy DeLay and Hyo Kang. Ham's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and she quickly gained recognition for her exceptional skills. In 1993, she won first prize at the Dong-A Music Competition in Korea, and in 1994, she won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York City.
