Ying Xiao is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant impact in the world of music. Born in China, she began her musical journey at a young age and has since become a celebrated pianist and educator. Ying Xiao was born in 1972 in the city of Wuhan, China. Her parents were both music teachers, and they recognized her talent for music at an early age. She began playing the piano when she was just four years old and quickly showed a natural aptitude for the instrument. As a child, Ying Xiao was enrolled in the Wuhan Conservatory of Music, where she received formal training in piano performance. She continued her studies at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, one of the most prestigious music schools in China. There, she studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and educator, Professor Li Mingqiang. After completing her studies in China, Ying Xiao moved to the United States to further her education. She enrolled in the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with the legendary pianist and teacher, Yoheved Kaplinsky. She also earned a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. Throughout her career, Ying Xiao has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls. She has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed in recitals and chamber music concerts throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. One of the highlights of Ying Xiao's career was her performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She was selected to perform at the opening ceremony, where she played a solo piano piece composed by Chinese composer Tan Dun. Her performance was seen by millions of people around the world and was widely praised for its beauty and elegance. In addition to her performing career, Ying Xiao is also a dedicated educator. She has taught at several prestigious music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the New England Conservatory of Music. She is currently a professor of piano at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Ying Xiao has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career. In 1999, she won the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. She has also been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Gilmore Young Artist Award, and the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award. Despite her many accomplishments, Ying Xiao remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform and teach, inspiring a new generation of musicians with her passion and talent.
