Chih-Long Hu is a renowned classical pianist and professor of music at the University of Tennessee. Born in Taiwan in 1969, Hu began playing the piano at the age of four and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He went on to study at the National Taiwan Academy of Arts and later at the Juilliard School in New York City. Hu's early career was marked by a series of impressive performances and awards. In 1991, he won first prize at the Taiwan National Piano Competition, and the following year he was awarded the prestigious Gina Bachauer Scholarship to study at the Juilliard School. In 1994, he won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, which led to a series of highly successful performances throughout the United States and Europe. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Hu continued to build his reputation as one of the most talented and dynamic pianists of his generation. He performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also collaborated with many of the most celebrated conductors of the day, including Leonard Slatkin, Christoph Eschenbach, and Michael Tilson Thomas. One of the highlights of Hu's career came in 2001, when he performed at the White House for President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. The concert was part of the White House's celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and Hu's performance was widely praised for its technical virtuosity and emotional depth. In addition to his work as a performer, Hu has also made significant contributions to the field of music education. He has served as a professor of music at the University of Tennessee since 2003, where he has mentored countless young musicians and helped to shape the next generation of classical pianists. He has also given masterclasses and workshops at universities and conservatories around the world, sharing his expertise and insights with aspiring musicians of all ages and backgrounds. Throughout his career, Hu has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In addition to his early competition wins and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, he has been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Gilmore Young Artist Award, and the Andrew Wolf Chamber Music Award. He has also been named a Steinway Artist, a distinction reserved for the world's most accomplished and influential pianists.
