Role:EnsembleTriple Helix Piano Trio is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1995 by violinist Bayla Keyes, cellist Rhonda Rider, and pianist Lois Shapiro. The trio has gained a reputation for their dynamic and expressive performances, as well as their commitment to contemporary music. Bayla Keyes, the founding member of Triple Helix, is a highly respected violinist who has performed with numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the United States and Europe. She has also been a faculty member at Boston University since 1983. Rhonda Rider, the cellist of the trio, is equally accomplished, having performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops, among others. She is also a faculty member at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Lois Shapiro, the pianist, has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, and has been a faculty member at Boston Conservatory at Berklee since 1989. Triple Helix Piano Trio has performed at major venues throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, and the Kennedy Center. They have also performed internationally, with tours in Europe and Asia. The trio has collaborated with numerous composers, including John Harbison, Yehudi Wyner, and Joan Tower, and has premiered many new works. One of the highlights of Triple Helix's career was their performance at the 2005 Boston Symphony Orchestra Chamber Music Marathon, where they performed Beethoven's "Archduke" Trio. The trio has also been featured on numerous radio programs, including NPR's "Performance Today" and WGBH's "Classical Performances." Triple Helix has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2001, they were awarded the Chamber Music America/WQXR Record Award for their recording of the complete piano trios of Robert Schumann. They were also awarded the Aaron Copland Fund for Music Recording Program Grant in 2004, which allowed them to record the complete piano trios of Johannes Brahms. In addition to their performances and recordings, Triple Helix is committed to music education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at numerous universities and conservatories, and have worked with young musicians through programs such as the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and the New England Conservatory Preparatory School.
