Ensemble neoN is a contemporary classical music ensemble based in Oslo, Norway. The ensemble was founded in 2008 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for exploring new and experimental music. Since its inception, Ensemble neoN has become one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in the contemporary classical music scene. The founding members of Ensemble neoN were Kristine Tjøgersen (flute), Håkon Stene (percussion), and Jan Martin Smørdal (composer). They were soon joined by Anders Førisdal (guitar), Ingeborg Lunde (violin), and Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø (trombone). The ensemble has since expanded to include a rotating cast of musicians, depending on the repertoire and performance. Ensemble neoN's repertoire is focused on contemporary classical music, with a particular emphasis on new and experimental works. The ensemble has commissioned and premiered numerous works by composers from around the world, including Norway, the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The ensemble's performances are known for their energy, precision, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of classical music. One of Ensemble neoN's most notable performances was at the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival in 2010. The ensemble performed a program of works by Norwegian composer Rolf Wallin, including the world premiere of his piece "Stonewave." The performance was widely praised for its virtuosity and innovative approach to contemporary classical music. Ensemble neoN has also collaborated with a number of other artists and ensembles, including the Norwegian National Opera, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. In 2014, the ensemble collaborated with the Norwegian artist Jenny Hval on her album "Innocence Is Kinky," which was nominated for the Nordic Music Prize. In addition to its performances, Ensemble neoN has also been recognized for its recordings. The ensemble's debut album, "neoN," was released in 2011 and received critical acclaim for its innovative approach to contemporary classical music. The album was nominated for a Spellemannprisen, the Norwegian equivalent of a Grammy Award, in the contemporary music category. Ensemble neoN has also been recognized for its commitment to education and outreach. The ensemble has worked with young musicians and composers through workshops and masterclasses, and has collaborated with schools and universities to promote contemporary classical music. Overall, Ensemble neoN has established itself as one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in the contemporary classical music scene. With its commitment to new and experimental works, its virtuosic performances, and its dedication to education and outreach, the ensemble is sure to continue pushing the boundaries of classical music for years to come.More....
