He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Handlos showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Handlos received his formal music education at the Vienna Conservatory, where he studied under the tutelage of some of the most prominent music teachers of the time. He was a gifted pianist and quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent. In 1965, he won the prestigious International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna, which marked the beginning of his illustrious career. Over the years, Handlos performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Musikverein in Vienna. He was known for his exceptional technique and his ability to bring out the nuances of the music he played. His performances were always highly anticipated, and he never failed to impress his audiences.
