He wrote music in a variety of genres, including opera, ballet, chamber music, and orchestral works. His music was influenced by the French impressionist style, as well as by the German romantic tradition. One of Bittner's early successes was his opera "Le Petit Poucet," which was based on the fairy tale of "Tom Thumb." The opera premiered in 1903 and was well-received by audiences and critics alike.
