Zhou Tian is a Chinese-American composer who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born in Hangzhou, China in 1981, Zhou Tian showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue music, enrolling him in the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music when he was just six years old. Zhou Tian's early years at the conservatory were challenging, as he struggled to adapt to the rigorous training and demanding schedule. However, he soon found his footing and began to excel in his studies. He showed a particular aptitude for composition, and his teachers encouraged him to pursue this area of music. In 1999, Zhou Tian moved to the United States to attend the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. There, he studied composition with Richard Danielpour and Jennifer Higdon, two renowned composers who had a profound influence on his work. He also had the opportunity to work with some of the world's leading musicians, including violinist Jaime Laredo and pianist Gary Graffman. After graduating from the Curtis Institute in 2003, Zhou Tian continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City. There, he studied with John Corigliano, one of the most celebrated American composers of the 20th century. Corigliano's influence can be heard in Zhou Tian's music, which often combines traditional Chinese elements with Western classical forms. Zhou Tian's music has been performed by some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
