Det Norske Jentekor, also known as the Norwegian Girls Choir, is a renowned classical music artist that has been captivating audiences with their angelic voices for over 70 years. The choir was founded in 1947 by Norwegian composer and conductor, Knut Nystedt, with the aim of providing young girls with the opportunity to develop their musical talents and perform at a professional level. The choir started with just 18 members, but over the years, it has grown to become one of the most respected and admired choirs in the world. Today, the choir consists of around 50 girls aged between 16 and 26, who are selected through a rigorous audition process. The girls come from all over Norway and are chosen for their exceptional vocal abilities, as well as their passion for music. Det Norske Jentekor has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras, such as the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of the highlights of the choir's career was their performance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in 1998, where they sang a specially commissioned piece by Norwegian composer, Ketil Hvoslef. The choir's performance was widely praised for its beauty and emotional depth, and it helped to cement their reputation as one of the world's leading choirs. Over the years, Det Norske Jentekor has won numerous awards and accolades for their outstanding performances. In 2012, they were awarded the prestigious Spellemannprisen, which is Norway's equivalent of the Grammy Awards, for their album "Folketoner" (Folk Songs). The album featured traditional Norwegian folk songs, arranged for choir by Knut Nystedt, and was praised for its exquisite harmonies and delicate melodies. In addition to their performances and recordings, Det Norske Jentekor is also committed to promoting music education and outreach programs. They regularly hold workshops and masterclasses for young singers, and they have collaborated with schools and community groups to bring the joy of music to a wider audience. Det Norske Jentekor's success can be attributed to their exceptional talent, dedication, and passion for music.
