Jassen Todorov is a Bulgarian-American violinist, conductor, and professor of music. He was born on October 23, 1974, in Varna, Bulgaria, to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist and his mother was a pianist. Todorov began playing the violin at the age of five and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Todorov's family moved to the United States when he was 13 years old, and he continued his musical education at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He later earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he studied with renowned violinist and pedagogue Miriam Fried. Todorov went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with James Buswell. Todorov has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He has collaborated with many distinguished musicians, including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Joshua Bell. In addition to his performing career, Todorov is also an accomplished conductor. He has conducted orchestras in the United States, Europe, and Asia, including the San Francisco Symphony, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Todorov is also a dedicated educator. He has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Oregon. He is currently a professor of music at San Francisco State University. Todorov has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2003, he won the International Violin Competition "Andrea Postacchini" in Italy. He has also been a prize winner in several other international competitions, including the International Violin Competition "Premio Paganini" in Italy and the International Violin Competition "Rodolfo Lipizer" in Italy. In addition to his competition successes, Todorov has been recognized for his contributions to the arts. In 2018, he was awarded the prestigious Jefferson Award for Public Service for his work with the San Francisco Symphony's Community of Music Makers program, which provides free music education to underserved communities in the Bay Area. Todorov is also an accomplished recording artist. He has released several albums, including "Bulgarian Rhapsody," which features works by Bulgarian composers, and "Soundscapes," which includes works by American composers. His recordings have received critical acclaim and have been featured on radio stations around the world. In addition to his performing, conducting, and teaching activities, Todorov is also an avid pilot. He holds a commercial pilot's license and has flown solo across the United States and Europe.
