Ava Ordman is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. She was born on August 22, 1960, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA. From a young age, Ava showed a keen interest in music and began playing the trombone at the age of 10. She was inspired by her father, who was a professional trombonist and music educator. Ava's musical journey began in earnest when she attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where she studied under the tutelage of Glenn P. Smith. She then went on to study at the University of Michigan, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1982. During her time at the university, Ava was a member of the Michigan Marching Band and the Symphony Band. After completing her undergraduate studies, Ava continued her education at the Yale School of Music, where she earned a Master of Music degree in 1984. She then went on to study at the Juilliard School, where she earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1991. Throughout her career, Ava has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, and the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. One of the highlights of Ava's career was her performance at the 1992 International Trombone Festival, where she was awarded the prestigious Robert Marsteller Award for Excellence in Performance. She has also been a finalist in the International Trombone Association's Solo Competition and has won numerous other awards and honors throughout her career. In addition to her work as a performer, Ava is also a highly respected music educator. She has taught at the University of Michigan, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is currently a professor of trombone at Michigan State University, where she has been a member of the faculty since 1996. Ava is also an active member of the International Trombone Association and has served as the organization's president from 2010 to 2012. She has also served as the president of the International Women's Brass Conference and is a member of the American Brass Quintet.
