Evolène Kiener was a Swiss classical music artist who was born on January 1, 1925, in Geneva, Switzerland. She was the daughter of a Swiss father and a French mother. Her father was a music lover and introduced her to classical music at a young age. Kiener showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Kiener's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking piano lessons with renowned Swiss pianist Marguerite Long. Long recognized Kiener's talent and encouraged her to continue her studies. Kiener went on to study at the Geneva Conservatory of Music, where she received a degree in piano performance. After completing her studies, Kiener began performing in concerts throughout Switzerland. She quickly gained a reputation as a talented pianist and was invited to perform in concerts throughout Europe. In 1950, she made her debut in the United States, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Kiener's performances were well-received by audiences and critics alike. She was praised for her technical skill and her ability to convey emotion through her playing. She quickly became one of the most sought-after pianists in the world. Throughout her career, Kiener performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. She also performed with many of the world's most famous conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, and Claudio Abbado. Kiener's repertoire was vast and included works by many of the world's greatest composers, including Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Brahms. She was particularly known for her interpretations of the works of French composers, including Debussy, Ravel, and Fauré. In addition to her performances, Kiener was also a respected teacher. She taught at the Geneva Conservatory of Music and the École Normale de Musique de Paris. Many of her students went on to have successful careers in music. Kiener received many awards and honors throughout her career. In 1963, she was awarded the Prix de Lausanne, a prestigious award for young musicians. In 1975, she was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. She was also awarded the Legion of Honor by the French government. Kiener continued to perform and teach until her death on December 28, 2005, at the age of 80. She left behind a legacy as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century.
