The New England Conservatory Chorus & Alumni Chorus is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over a century. The ensemble is based in Boston, Massachusetts, and is composed of talented singers who have received training from the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music. The New England Conservatory Chorus was founded in 1900 by George Whitefield Chadwick, a prominent American composer and conductor. The ensemble was initially composed of students from the New England Conservatory of Music, and its primary purpose was to provide a platform for these students to showcase their vocal talents. Over time, the ensemble grew in size and reputation, attracting talented singers from all over the world. In 1976, the New England Conservatory Alumni Chorus was formed, comprising former members of the New England Conservatory Chorus. The Alumni Chorus was created to provide an opportunity for former members to continue singing together and to maintain their connection to the New England Conservatory of Music. The New England Conservatory Chorus & Alumni Chorus has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall, and the Kennedy Center. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of the highlights of the New England Conservatory Chorus & Alumni Chorus' career was their performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at Symphony Hall in Boston in 2013. The performance was conducted by Hugh Wolff and featured soloists from the New England Conservatory of Music. The concert was a resounding success, with the Boston Globe describing the ensemble's performance as "powerful and moving." The New England Conservatory Chorus & Alumni Chorus has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 2010, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America. The award recognizes outstanding choral ensembles that demonstrate artistic excellence, a strong commitment to education, and a dedication to their community. In addition to their performances, the New England Conservatory Chorus & Alumni Chorus is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly conducts workshops and masterclasses for aspiring singers, and they have also performed in schools and community centers throughout the Boston area.
